Miri & Bintulu – Sarawak Oil Palms Group (SOP) had the honour of hosting YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, for a two-day work visit to SOP’s headquarters in Miri and the SOP Refinery in Bintulu. Accompanying the Deputy Minister was Mr. Alan Ling Sie Kiong, further underscoring the government’s commitment to the sustainability and advancement of the nation’s palm oil industry.

On the first day of the visit, YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin attended the Jom MSPO programme, held at the Marriott Hotel in Miri, which promoted sustainable practices in the palm oil sector. Following this, YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin and Mr Alan Ling visited SOP’s headquarters, where they met with senior management, led by Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Paul Wong Hee Kwong. The discussions focused on SOP’s leadership in sustainable palm oil practices, challenges faced by the industry, and opportunities for further growth, particularly in global markets.

On the second day, the entourage visited SOP’s refinery in Bintulu. The delegation toured the state-of-the-art facility and reviewed its sustainable processing methods, focusing on efficiency, quality, and MSPO certification compliance.

YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin expressed his satisfaction with the visit, stating, “SOP’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is a testament to the resilience and forward-thinking approach of Sarawak’s palm oil industry. The government’s ongoing partnership with industry leaders like SOP is crucial in ensuring Malaysia’s palm oil continues to be a global leader in sustainable production.”

This visit marks a significant step towards strengthening cooperation between the government and key players in the palm oil sector to achieve shared goals of sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.
