In order to formulate effective biodiversity conservation strategies and to promote sustainable agriculture, SOPB has embarked on R&D projects to conserve jungle reserves and wildlife sanctuaries to preserve biodiversity of its environment.

An area of about 200 hectares of regenerating secondary peat forest has been set aside for conservation and biodiversity purposes, namely, Tinbarap Conservation Forest (TCA) near Miri, Sarawak.

We have 3 main collaborative programs with researchers from local research body and university that support the biodiversity conservation research in this conservation area:

  1. Floristic Composition and Carbon Stock Assessment of the Tinbarap Conservation Area (TCA) Peat Swamp Forest of Tinbarap Estate

LOCATION

    • Tinbarap Estate, Miri

COLLABORATORS

      • SOPB
      • Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)
      • Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)

PURPOSE

      • To assess and quantify tree species composition and to estimate the carbon stock of tropical peat swamp forest.

2. Diversity and Conservation of Bird, Mammals and Fish Species in Tinbarap Conservation Area (TCA)
