Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil Certification (MSPO)

The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) is the national sustainability certification scheme for the country’s oil palm industry. Under this scheme, certified entities implement sustainable practices with a focus on key areas such as transparency, legal and regulatory compliance, best production practices, environmental stewardship, community development, and the protection of human and land rights.

Complementing the main standard is the MSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS), which ensures traceability along the entire palm oil value chain—from growers to end customers.

All palm oil mills and estates owned by SOPB are MSPO-certified under the MS2530-3:2013 and MS2530-4:2013 standards and undergo periodic re-certification to ensure continued compliance and improvement.

In line with evolving sustainability requirements, the MSPO standard was recently updated to MS2530:2022 (also known as MSPO 2.0). This updated version introduces enhanced criteria to strengthen environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices and align Malaysia’s palm oil certification with international expectations.

SOPB is committed to adopting the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) as its primary sustainability standard. As of now, 2 out of 7 palm oil mills and their respective estates have been certified under the new MS2530:2022 standard. SOPB aims to achieve full certification under MSPO 2.0 by the end of 2025.

SOPB also plays an active role in the development and implementation of MSPO 2.0 through participation in initiatives such as the MSPO 2.0 Pilot Audit and technical working groups on High Conservation Value (HCV) and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) assessments.
