SOP Bintulu Hosts Smallholders & Agriculture Officers Visit At Refinery
BINTULU, 27 AUG – Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) recently hosted officers from the Department of Agriculture (DOA) Bintulu together with local smallholders for an insightful visit to its Refinery in Bintulu. The program was part of SOP’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry-smallholder collaboration and provide exposure to the downstream segment of the palm oil value chain.
The visit featured a knowledge-sharing session led by SOP’s refinery team, followed by a guided tour of the facilities. Smallholders were introduced to the processes that transform crude palm oil into refined products, gaining a deeper understanding of the standards, technology, and quality controls involved.
For the smallholders, this was an opportunity to connect the dots between their role in supplying fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and the final refined products that reach consumers worldwide. By seeing the broader picture, they were able to appreciate the importance of crop quality, harvesting practices, and consistency in supply to ensure smooth downstream operations.
Mr. Kiu Kwong Seng, Chief Operating Officer of SOP, remarked, “We are delighted to host the Department of Agriculture Bintulu and the smallholders at our refinery. This visit highlights the vital link between upstream producers and downstream operations. By giving smallholders a closer look at the refining process, we hope to inspire greater appreciation of how their efforts in the field directly impact product quality and market competitiveness. By solidifying their understanding, we can build a more resilient and sustainable palm oil industry together.”
SOP remains committed to empowering smallholders by providing platforms for knowledge exchange, strengthening partnerships, and building resilience across the palm oil industry—from plantation to refinery.
