MIRI, 25 JUNE – Sarawak Oil Palms (SOP) welcomed students from the Electronics Technology Programme of Kolej Vokasional Miri to its Lambir Palm Oil Mill as part of an academic industrial visit aimed at providing practical exposure to the technologies and systems that support modern palm oil milling operations.

The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the company which was later followed by safety and operational briefings, conducted by the mill’s personnel to fully equip students with essential safety knowledge before entering the facility. Students were then taken on a guided tour of the mill, where they observed the various stages of the palm oil production process, from the reception of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) to the extraction and processing of crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK).

The visit offered students a practical perspective on industrial operations, complementing their academic learning with real-world exposure. By observing the mill’s processes firsthand, students gained a deeper appreciation of the technologies, equipment, and workforce required to support efficient palm oil production.

Senior Mill Manager of Lambir Palm Oil Mill, Su Chung Liik, said such educational visits are important in preparing students for future careers by exposing them to real-world industrial environments. “Industrial exposure allows students to gain a deeper appreciation of how technology is applied in large-scale operations,” he said. “We are pleased to support initiatives that enhance students’ technical understanding while broadening their awareness of career opportunities within the industry.”

SOP remains committed to supporting educational partnerships that promote knowledge sharing, technical learning, and workforce development. Through such engagements, the company aims to inspire future talent by providing meaningful industry exposure and practical insights into the technologies that drive operational excellence.
