MIRI, 2 MAYSarawak Oil Palms (SOP) hosted a group of 40 students from the Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia, accompanied by their lecturer, at its Lambir Palm Oil Mill as part of an academic industrial visit aimed at deepening their understanding of the palm oil industry.

The programme began with an operational and safety briefing by the mill’s senior engineer, equipping students with essential safety knowledge before entering the facility. This was followed by a guided tour of the mill, where students were introduced to the full spectrum of operations — from the reception of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) to the extraction and clarification processes involved in producing crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK).

The visit provided students with a practical perspective on industrial workflows, complementing their academic studies with real-world exposure. Through direct engagement with the mill’s engineer, students gained deeper insight into the operational complexities and efficiencies that underpin palm oil production.

Senior Mill Manager of Lambir Palm Oil Mill, Su Chung Liik, said such initiatives play an important role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. “This visit provides students with the opportunity to witness firsthand the realities of mill operations, which are not often experienced in a classroom setting,” he said. “We welcome such engagements as they broaden students’ perspectives and enhance their understanding of the industry.”

SOP remains committed to supporting educational collaborations that promote knowledge sharing and industry exposure. By facilitating such visits, the company aims to nurture future-ready talent equipped with both academic grounding and practical insight.
