[Tatau, Bintulu] — Following the successful first round of the SOP Foundation Vision Care Project at Rh Edwin, Sungai Sujan Mapo, Sebauh, SOP Foundation continued its commitment to rural eye health by organising the second round of the programme at Rh Buli, Sungai Semanok, Tatau.
Held shortly after the at Rh Edwin Sungai Sujan Mapo, Sebauh, this session focused on improving access to eye care among rural residents, ensuring that communities in remote areas receive the support they need for better vision and overall wellbeing. Rh Buli served as the main venue, and residents from seven neighbouring longhouses — namely Rumah Unjie, Rumah Randi, Rumah Ramli, Rumah Kalip, Rumah Janggu, Rumah Kawie and Rumah Luming were also invited to take part in the programme to broaden the outreach.
The programme, supported by Miri Specvision Optometry, provided free vision screenings and consultations for the local community. A total of approximately 250 residents participated in the screening session, reflecting strong interest and awareness of the importance of eye health. Residents requiring prescription glasses will receive them once prepared by the optical team, fully sponsored by SOP Foundation under its ongoing Vision Care Project.
Estate Managers Dirkensky Anak Dix and Sam Lim Kien Hock from SOP Kuala Tatau 1 and Kuala Tatau 2 Estates attended the event, representing both their estates and SOP Foundation.
They shared, “We are pleased that the programme received such positive support from the residents of eight longhouses in the area. Their enthusiastic participation reflects the community’s recognition of the importance of eye health and reinforces our commitment to making quality vision care accessible to rural communities. We hope this initiative not only benefits the participants directly but also raises awareness of the value of regular eye screenings across the wider region.”
SOP Foundation thanked the estate teams, the residents of Rh Buli and the seven neighbouring longhouses, and Miri Specvision Optometry for their cooperation and support in making the second round a success.
As the Vision Care Project continues to expand across different regions, SOP Foundation remains committed to making quality eye care accessible to rural communities and improving overall community wellbeing. Further rounds of the project are planned for the coming year as part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to reach more beneficiaries and strengthen community health support.
