Miri – SOP Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education accessibility in Sarawak through the handover of LEGO Education sets and the Bright Minds 2026 workshop, held in collaboration with Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment between SOP Foundation and Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak to provide students with greater access to engaging and hands-on learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and English.

The handover ceremony was officiated by SOP Foundation Board of Trustees member, Mr Eric Kiu, and Dr Norsarihan bin Ahmad, Deputy Director of Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak, marking another milestone in the ongoing collaboration.

This year’s workshop involved participation from five schools: SJK Hua Kwong, SK Kelapa Sawit No. 4, SK Batu Tellingai, SJK Chee Mung and SJK Chin Nam. Each school was represented by three teachers and three students, bringing together a total of 30 participants. The programme was fully sponsored by SOP Foundation.

Speaking at the event, SOP Foundation Board of Trustees member Mr Eric Kiu Kwong Seng said the initiative goes beyond the provision of educational tools.

“The handover of the LEGO Education sets represents our commitment to sparking curiosity, creativity and teamwork among students. These tools are designed to help shape young minds to think, explore and solve problems with confidence,” he said.

SOP Foundation first launched Bright Minds in 2025, benefiting nine primary schools in Miri and Marudi in collaboration with Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak as part of its broader effort to strengthen STEM education access. The programme is being expanded in phases over a four-year period, with the long-term goal of reaching all 38 primary schools under its Young Achievers Award (YAA) and Student Adoption Programme (SAP). The encouraging response from both teachers and students continues to drive the Foundation’s commitment to broaden the initiative’s impact across Sarawak.

Through the Bright Minds 2026 workshop, participating educators and students are expected to bring back the knowledge and practical experience gained during the session to their respective schools, enabling more students to benefit from STEM-based learning opportunities.

SOP Foundation also expressed appreciation to Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak for its strong support and leadership in making the programme possible.

SOP Foundation remains committed to working with strategic partners to create meaningful educational opportunities and inspire the next generation of learners in Sarawak.
