BINTULU, 27 NOV – Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) welcomed students from I-CATS Miri for an academic industrial visitation at its Refinery in Bintulu. The program was part of SOP’s ongoing initiatives to provide students with practical exposure to the downstream segment of the palm oil value chain and foster understanding of industrial operations.

The visit began with a knowledge-sharing session conducted by SOP’s refinery team, followed by a guided tour of the facilities. Students were introduced to the processes involved in transforming crude palm oil into refined products, gaining insights into the standards, technology, and quality control measures implemented in the refinery.

For the students, the visit provided an opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge from their studies with real-world industrial practices. They learned how upstream activities, such as oil palm cultivation and harvesting, ultimately influence the efficiency and quality of downstream operations.

Mr. Kiu Kwong Chiang, Controller Operations at SOP Refinery, commented, “We are delighted to host I-CATS Miri students and share with them how our refinery operates. It is important for the next generation to understand the journey of palm oil from farm to final product, and we hope this experience inspires them in their academic and future professional pursuits.”

SOP continues to support educational initiatives that bridge academic learning and industry practices, reinforcing its commitment to knowledge sharing, capacity building, and nurturing future talent in the palm oil sector—from plantation to refinery.
