MIRI, 10 JULY – Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) recently welcomed students from the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) for an industrial visit to SOP Academy and Lambir 1 Estate. The programme aimed to provide Plantation Management students with first-hand exposure to estate operations and sustainable harvesting practices.

The visit began at SOP Academy, where the students were introduced to SOP’s corporate background and history throughout its operations. The delegation then proceeded to Lambir 1 Estate, where they visited selected mature palm areas to gain insights into estate management practices and sustainable harvesting techniques. The visit concluded at the nursery, where students had the opportunity to observe the process of nurturing young oil palm seedlings.

For the students, the visit offered a valuable opportunity to experience the palm oil industry firsthand, gain a deeper understanding of plantation operations, and appreciate the standards, practices, and sustainability measures implemented by SOP in managing its estates.

Estate Manager of Lambir 1 Estate, Shridharan, shared, “We are pleased to welcome i-CATS students and their lecturers to experience our operations up close. Introducing students to the work carried out at the estate level helps them develop a clearer understanding of the industry and the important role that sustainable practices play in plantation management.”

SOP continues to support educational initiatives and industry engagement programmes by providing students with valuable exposure to real-world plantation practices. Through these initiatives, SOP remains committed to knowledge sharing and nurturing future talents in the palm oil industry.
