MIRI, 28 APR – Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP) recently welcomed an international delegation from Newman Catholic College, Hong Kong, for an academic-industrial visit to its Lambir Palm Oil Mill and SOP Academy.

The visit provided students and accompanying faculty members with valuable exposure to the real-world operations of the palm oil industry. Through guided tours and interactive sessions, the delegation gained first-hand insights into milling processes, sustainability practices, and the operational standards upheld by SOP across its upstream activities.

At the Lambir Palm Oil Mill, the delegation gained a clearer understanding of the milling process, from the conversion of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) into crude palm oil (CPO) to the extraction and processing of palm kernel (PK), further deepening their appreciation of industry practices beyond the classroom.

Senior Mill Manager of Lambir Palm Oil Mill, Su Chung Liik, shared: “We are proud to welcome an international delegation from Hong Kong to our operations. It is a valuable opportunity to showcase how our industry operates — from milling processes to sustainability practices — while fostering greater understanding and connection across borders.” He added that it was encouraging to see growing global interest in the palm oil sector and hoped the visit would inspire continued engagement with the industry.

By hosting international academic delegations such as Newman Catholic College, SOP continues to expand its global engagement and strengthen cross-border knowledge exchange. These collaborations not only promote a deeper understanding of Malaysia’s palm oil industry but also foster meaningful connections that support long-term partnerships within the international academic and industry landscape.

SOP remains committed to creating platforms for knowledge-sharing, innovation, and collaboration, in line with its vision of advancing sustainable practices and contributing to the development of future industry leaders.
